As part of the British government’s Better Health campaign, NHS Food Scanner is a food scanner app that brings food labels to life and helps users make healthier food and drink choices.
A quick scan of the barcode on the product's packaging using the phone's camera will show users the amount of sugar, saturated fat and salt in the food item. The app also enables families to make healthier food choices by offering alternatives with less saturated fat, sugar or salt after they scan the barcode of selected shopping items. Users are able to compare different products based on their nutritional content and use the swap suggestions to find healthier choices.
