Exodus

Pros

Exodus offers an intuitive, polished interface across desktop and mobile that simplifies crypto management for beginners and power users. Clear portfolio summaries, customizable layouts, and guided onboarding make sending, receiving and tracking assets fast and stress-free—no steep learning curve required, improving user retention and discoverability in app stores.

Security-first design keeps you in control: Exodus is non-custodial so private keys stay local and encrypted on your device, backed by a 12-word recovery phrase. The app supports optional hardware wallet integration (Trezor) and frequent security updates, balancing strong self-custody with convenient, user-friendly backup and restore options.

Powerful built-in features let you manage dozens of cryptocurrencies without leaving the app: seamless in-app swaps, live price charts, portfolio tracking, and staking for supported assets. Native exchange partners and transparent fees streamline trades while consolidated tax and transaction history simplify reporting and long-term portfolio optimization.

Cons

Not fully open-source — Exodus does not publish all of its source code, preventing comprehensive independent audits. That limits transparency and forces users to trust the company for critical security fixes. Security-conscious users and developers may prefer fully open-source wallets where the entire codebase can be reviewed and verified.

Higher fees and limited fee transparency — Exodus’s built-in exchange and fiat purchase partners often charge wider spreads and service fees than dedicated exchanges or decentralized alternatives. Fee breakdowns can be opaque, increasing costs for swaps and purchases and making it hard for active traders to find the most cost-efficient routes.

Limited privacy and advanced features — Exodus relies on third-party APIs for price feeds, swaps and blockchain lookups, which can expose transaction metadata and reduce anonymity. It lacks built-in privacy tools (CoinJoin, Tor routing) and full-node operation, and advanced users may miss coin control and customization expected in power-user wallets.
