Uphold

Pros

Uphold offers extensive asset selection, letting users buy Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and more than 300 other assets, including stocks, precious metals and stablecoins. Its multi-asset wallet and one-click cross-asset conversion simplify diversification, so investors can manage a broad portfolio and move between crypto and traditional assets with real-time pricing.

Uphold’s intuitive mobile and web interfaces make buying BTC and ETH fast and approachable for beginners and pros alike. Instant funding via debit/credit cards, ACH/SEPA bank transfers and recurring buy options let you set automated investments, while clear order previews and simple workflows reduce friction for one-off trades or scheduled contributions.

Security and transparency are central to Uphold’s experience, combining industry-standard protections—encryption, two-factor authentication and custodial controls—with up-front pricing and fee breakdowns. Real-time market quotes, clear conversion rates, and compliance-focused controls help users confidently convert fiat to crypto, monitor costs, and track portfolio movements without hidden markups.

Cons

Uphold's convenience can come with higher costs. Compared with low‑fee crypto exchanges, Uphold often charges wider spreads, conversion markups, and card or ACH deposit fees that add up—especially for small trades. Traders seeking the lowest transaction costs may find better pricing on specialized exchanges with tighter fees.

Uphold is designed for ease of use but lacks advanced trading tools. It offers limited order types, minimal charting, and no margin or derivatives trading, making it unsuitable for active traders who need sophisticated analytics, algorithmic orders, or deep order book access found on professional exchanges.

Customer support and account controls can frustrate users. Account verification may take days, and some customers report slow support responses, temporary freezes, or strict withdrawal limits during compliance reviews—which can delay access to funds, especially during market volatility or when immediate transfers are needed.
