Wise

Pros

Wise offers consistently low, transparent fees and uses the true mid-market exchange rate, so you avoid the hidden markups common with banks. Fees are clearly displayed before you confirm a transfer, helping you compare costs quickly and save money on both personal and business international payments.

Transfers through Wise are typically faster than traditional bank wire transfers and include clear tracking so you know when money will arrive. The platform supports sending and receiving many global currencies with reliable delivery and real-time status updates, making cross-border payments efficient for individuals and companies.

Wise’s multi-currency account lets you hold, convert and spend in multiple currencies without excessive fees, with local banking details (e.g., USD, EUR, GBP) for receiving payments. The linked debit card and business features—like batch payments and integrations—simplify global spending, payroll, and financial workflows for frequent travelers and international businesses.

Cons

Wise’s fee structure can be confusing and sometimes costly for small or card-funded transfers. While Wise uses mid-market exchange rates, it still charges fixed and percentage fees that vary by corridor and payment method. These fees can make low-value transfers or instant card payments more expensive than expected.

Transfer speed varies by payment method and destination; not all transactions are instant. Bank-funded transfers, currency conversion timing, weekends, and local banking cutoffs can introduce multi-day delays. Users sending time-sensitive payments or using less-common currency routes may experience frustrating wait times and unpredictable arrival windows.

Customer support and verification processes can be slow and limited. Wise relies heavily on in-app help and chat, with restricted phone availability in some regions. Strict KYC checks sometimes trigger account holds or additional document requests, delaying transfers and complicating urgent or high-value payments.
