Pro
1. Financial Accessibility: NSFAS provides funding for students who can't afford tertiary education, ensuring that financial barriers don't prevent capable individuals from pursuing higher education.
2. Comprehensive Coverage: The funding covers tuition, accommodation, study materials, and living allowances, easing the financial burden and allowing students to focus on their academic goals.
3. Social Equity: By specifically targeting lower-income households, NSFAS helps level the playing field in education, promoting social and economic transformation by supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Con
1. Eligibility Restrictions: NSFAS is limited to South African citizens, excluding non-citizens who may be residents or refugees with schooling needs.
2. Technical Difficulties: Applicants may encounter problems with the NSFAS website, such as glitches and downtime, which can hinder the application process.
3. Limited Funding: The budget constraints can mean not all eligible and deserving students receive support, as the demand may outnumber available funds.
