Barclays

Pros

The Barclays UK app delivers 24/7 convenience for everyday banking—check balances, view transactions, transfer money, pay bills, set up standing orders, and use Faster Payments or mobile contactless payments (Apple Pay/Google Pay). Intuitive navigation and account shortcuts make routine tasks quick and efficient on the go.

Robust security features protect your money and data: biometric login (Face ID/Touch ID), two-step verification, device recognition, end-to-end encryption, and proactive fraud monitoring. In-app card controls let you freeze cards, set limits, and manage contactless settings, while secure messaging provides a safe channel for sensitive communications.

Powerful money-management tools and support help you stay in control. Built-in spending insights, budgeting tools, and savings goals provide actionable analysis and tailored alerts. The app also enables easy product applications (credit cards, loans, mortgages) and offers in-app customer support and secure chat for fast, personalized assistance.

Cons

Some users experience slow load times, freezes, or unexpected crashes—especially during peak hours or after updates. These interruptions can delay payments, prevent balance checks, or block urgent transfers. While updates often improve stability, inconsistent performance still remains a recurring frustration for customers who need dependable, real-time mobile banking access.

Compared with some rivals, the app lacks advanced budgeting, investment tracking, and third-party integrations. Customization options and in-app card controls can feel limited, forcing users to visit the online portal or branch for certain tasks. Power users may find the feature set insufficient for comprehensive financial management with detailed reporting.

Security measures like frequent re-authentication, one-time passcodes, and temporary lockouts can create friction—especially when biometric login fails. Some customers report slow response times from in-app support and long phone wait times for urgent issues. These hurdles can be frustrating in time-sensitive situations like payment disputes or account access problems frequently.
