American Airlines

Pros

The American Airlines app streamlines booking and managing reservations on the go. Search flights, compare fares, choose seats, add bags, request upgrades, and pay securely in one intuitive interface. Saved traveler profiles and stored payment methods speed repeat bookings, making trip planning faster and more convenient for frequent and occasional flyers alike.

Get real-time flight status, gate assignments, delay alerts, and timely push notifications so you’re always up to date. Mobile check-in and digital boarding passes let you skip kiosks, and airport maps, seat upgrade offers, and in-app customer support help resolve issues quickly for a smoother, less stressful airport experience.

Integrated AAdvantage account management displays miles, elite status, and tailored reward offers directly in the app. Redeem miles, view statements, and receive personalized promotions. Support for digital wallets, baggage notifications, and saved travel preferences simplifies routine tasks while maximizing loyalty benefits and encouraging repeat bookings.

Cons

The American Airlines app can be unstable at times, with occasional crashes or freezes during check‑in, boarding pass retrieval, or flight changes. These interruptions—especially during high‑traffic periods or after updates—can cause lost progress and added stress, forcing users to switch to the website or phone customer service to complete tasks.

Managing complex itineraries, award bookings, or multi‑carrier trips can be cumbersome in the app. Seat selection, upgrades, and some AAdvantage award redemptions may be limited or unavailable, requiring users to use the desktop site or call customer support to finalize changes, which reduces convenience for frequent flyers with intricate travel plans.

The app’s interface can feel cluttered and unintuitive, with important features tucked away under menus and occasional unclear error messages. Excessive push notifications and promotional offers can be distracting. Performance may suffer on older devices, leading to slow load times and degraded responsiveness during time‑sensitive tasks like mobile boarding.
