Vudu

Pros

Buy, rent, or watch thousands of movies and TV shows on Vudu, including a large free ad-supported selection called Movies on Us. No subscription is required — pay only for the titles you want. Frequent deals, early-access new releases, and flexible viewing options put control of entertainment spending in your hands.

Vudu offers many titles in 4K UHD with HDR, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos when available, delivering cinema-quality streaming at home. The app supports smart TVs, streaming players like Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV, game consoles, and mobile devices, with seamless playback and resume across platforms for uninterrupted viewing.

Your purchases are saved in a personal digital locker, while rentals remain available for defined viewing windows. Vudu’s intuitive search, watchlist, parental controls, and bonus extras simplify discovery and organization. Cross-device syncing and personalized recommendations help you find relevant titles quickly, making it easy to manage and enjoy your movie collection.

Cons

Vudu's pay-per-title model can get expensive. Renting or buying many movies quickly costs more than subscription services; new-release purchases are often pricey, and discounts are sporadic. Frequent viewers or households wanting broad access may find Vudu less cost-effective than streaming subscriptions or bundled digital libraries.

The "Movies on Us" free tier includes ads and a limited, often dated catalog. Ads interrupt playback and the selection lacks many recent or popular titles, so free viewing feels constrained. For viewers who prefer ad-free, up-to-date catalogs, Vudu's ad-supported library can be disappointing.

Device and regional limitations hamper Vudu’s convenience. The service is primarily available in the U.S., and not all smart TVs or streaming boxes support every feature. Offline viewing is inconsistent — some titles can't be downloaded, and DRM limits playback across devices, complicating travel or multi-device households.
